NORTH EASTERN KENYA LEADERS VOW TO FIGHT ALSHABAAB.

Increased terror attacks in the region have prompted leaders from North Eastern Kenya to take action.

Political leaders from Northern Kenya have convened in Garissa town on Monday 20th January 2020 to address the increasing cross border attacks by Al-Shabaab. 
National assembly majority leader Adan Duale reiterated that the government needs to send Special Forces to those areas which are prone to attacks by the Somalia based terror group. Mr Duale added that those communities affected by the Alshabaab menace in Northern and coastal kenya must unite and join efforts in “the fight against the enemy”.
Garissa senator and veteran politician Yussuf Haji said the idea of a section of Kenyans thinking ordinary Somalis give support to Alshabaab is unthinkable adding that even though some locals have joined the terror group, most are foreigners from neighboring Somalia, other parts of Kenya and even the larger East Africa.
Faafi constituency Member of Parliament, Abdikarim Osman told Citizen TV that the county leaders from the governor, MPs, Members of the County Assembly and elders from all the clans have attended the meeting. Mr Osman reiterated that the county has suffered huge losses from Alshabaab attacks with schools in Dadaad,Ijara and Lagdera closed and teachers leaving the affected areas. Adding they have all vowed to fight then militant group.
Dadaab Member of Parliament, Mohamed Dahiye stated that fighting terrorism must be done within the scope of the law, saying extrajudicial killings that have, in the past, been witnessed in North Eastern Kenya and Coast regions have proved to be counter-productive.

Al-Shabaab assassinates a Banana vendor

The radical group Al-Shabaab that operates mainly in Somalia has claimed responsibility for the assassination of a trader who sells Bananas. The deceased who was named as Hilowle Aboor was a famous trader at Boocle market in Mogadishu, Somalia where he sold bananas, the same market that he was shot dead on February 4, 2019. Al-Shabaab claimed that Mr. Aboor was an undercover officer for the Somali government. The security agencies did not comment about the claims of Al-Shabaab and whether one of their men was killed. The group also claimed responsibility for another assassination that happened at the same night but did not give any explanation as to who he was and why they killed him. The terror group carries out assassinations in Mogadishu almost on daily basis.
