NORTH EASTERN KENYA LEADERS VOW TO FIGHT ALSHABAAB.

Increased terror attacks in the region have prompted leaders from North Eastern Kenya to take action.

Political leaders from Northern Kenya have convened in Garissa town on Monday 20th January 2020 to address the increasing cross border attacks by Al-Shabaab.
National assembly majority leader Adan Duale reiterated that the government needs to send Special Forces to those areas which are prone to attacks by the Somalia based terror group. Mr Duale added that those communities affected by the Alshabaab menace in Northern and coastal kenya must unite and join efforts in “the fight against the enemy”.
Garissa senator and veteran politician Yussuf Haji said the idea of a section of Kenyans thinking ordinary Somalis give support to Alshabaab is unthinkable adding that even though some locals have joined the terror group, most are foreigners from neighboring Somalia, other parts of Kenya and even the larger East Africa.
Faafi constituency Member of Parliament, Abdikarim Osman told Citizen TV that the county leaders from the governor, MPs, Members of the County Assembly and elders from all the clans have attended the meeting. Mr Osman reiterated that the county has suffered huge losses from Alshabaab attacks with schools in Dadaad,Ijara and Lagdera closed and teachers leaving the affected areas. Adding they have all vowed to fight then militant group.
Dadaab Member of Parliament, Mohamed Dahiye stated that fighting terrorism must be done within the scope of the law, saying extrajudicial killings that have, in the past, been witnessed in North Eastern Kenya and Coast regions have proved to be counter-productive.

Kenyan clergy should stand up to Al-Shabaab

Any time a devastating terror attack happens, religious leaders are very quick to mention that they don’t consider terrorists to be true Muslims. After the Dusit attack, Muslim leaders reiterated that such attacks are unacceptable, immoral and inconsistent with Human values and ethics. Deputy leader of SUPKEM said "we strongly condemn the barbaric and criminal tactic of perpetuating violence against innocent people" But some countries that have also been affected by this menace have decided to do more than just condemn.  Countries in East Asia for example have declared ‘FATWA’(a ruling on a point of Islamic law given by a recognized authority) on terrorism, the aim being to reduce radicalism and militancy, and discourage sympathizers and patrons of militants from pursuing violent ways. North Eastern Kenya and coastal regions are totally being deprived of crucial services like education because of Al-Shabaab’s relentless attacks on learning institutions and teachers.  Recently...
